Spencer's Surprise!

Once I was admitted to the hospital, our wonderful parents were so great about helping with the kids.  My mom was there right as things were happening (she booked it down last minute with no notice, and we so appreciate that).  Dale's mom then came down as soon as she could and got to our house super late.  Thank you both so so much!!

We brought Emma home on Wednesday, and on Friday afternoon Dale's parents needed to head back home for an obligation they had on Saturday.  We decided that they'd take Will and Spencer back to Logan with them so I only had 4 kids while adjusting to Dale being back at work, etc.

Sunday afternoon we talked to them so we could do Facetime with the boys, and they said Spencer had hurt his elbow while visiting great grandpa that afternoon.  After talking later on and further, we found out that Spencer and Will were running around playing and Spencer fell on his elbow and hurt it.  We talked to Spencer and knew that he wasn't just being sad about a little bump he'd gotten.  We asked Dale's parents to take Spencer to the insta care in town and let us know.

Well, after having a doctor look at it they found out that Spencer had supracondylar distal humerus fracture.  From what we understand that basically means that he broke (fractured ...) the joint in his elbow that is connected to the humerus bone.  Sounds so exciting huh?  I'm SO glad that they took him in and got it looked at.

Everyone was very good with him (from what we were told) and I'm so grateful for that.  Spencer scored pretty well at the doctor.  He got a blue monkey, sucker, and an otter pop.  :)  He seemed so much better when we talked to him after getting home for the doctor.  He'd been given some pain meds though, so that's always helpful.  When we hung up for the night, we were still figuring out how to dress the kid though, lol.  :)

They seemed to find a shirt that worked.  Dale's mom made this shirt for Will (and one for Spencer, but that is too small for him I'm sure), and they were able to get it on him to get him home.  Spencer called it the Woody shirt (like Woody from Toy Story).  :)

After seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon, we found out that Spencer will just keep his splint on, and not have to get a cast.  :)  He will get it x-rayed again in a week, and then probably need to splint on for 4-6 weeks.  He's doing great figuring out how to do things to the best of his ability, and asks for help when needed.  He's been so brave and done really well with all of this.  :)

He is SUCH a handsome kid. What a cutie, even in his poor sling. What a trooper though! And what a relief that he doesn't need a cast or anything.
