A few years ago for a family reunion with Dale's family, my sister-in-law got each of us prepared and started on our 72 hour kits. It was great!
Now, each conference weekend we try (that's the key word) to rotate the food in our 72 hour kits. It's great because the kids can (usually) eat the food that is in the kits, and then we put new food in. I can also make sure everyones is up to date. Which means, making sure the information sheet we have in there is updated with all the correct information, and that as the kids get bigger their kits have everything that is needed. For instance, Jack didn't have a mess kit. Being younger than 1 he hasn't really needed one. So, we've made that update in his kit, so he now has a mess kit.
Here is a list of what we have included in our 72 hour kits. It's simple, and not too expensive to update (although, the price goes up each time as we have more people that need food for their kits, lol).
9 juice boxes
7 cracker packages (like the ones that have 6 crackers each)
4 small cereal boxes
4 granola bars
5 fruit cups (this year everyone has 3 apple sauce cups and 2 fruit cups)
2 packets hot chocolate
2-3 packets oatmeal
1 package gum
Handful of a variety of hard candy
I know this picture is awful ... but it's more of the table than the kids. Lol. Here is the old food (close to Spencer) and the new food on the rest of the table.
We each have the following as well:
Mess kit
Silver ware
Sippy cups (only the kids obviously, lol)
Bottles (only goes in the baby's kit)
Bibs
Poncho
Tissues
Emergency blanket
Hand warmers
Light sticks
Garbage bags
Toys/Coloring books/Crayons/Books -- for everyone! Even the adults need something
Combs
Chap stick
Shampoo
Bar soap
Toothbrush/paste
Lotion
Hand sanitizer
Mask
Pen
Cash (in low bills only. Mostly $1 bills, and a couple $5)
Matches -- we store ours in old prescription bottles. It works great.
Sharpie -- LOVE this idea. If needed, you can quickly write on your arm and your child's arm, their name, your name, and a phone number and/or address. That way if you're separated some how, it can be seen easily who they are, and who they belong to, and how to contact you.
As a side note, we do have one GIANT bag that has a bunch of different things we need for the family. Like a first aid kit, I have size 5 diapers -- as they would probably fit any child that needed them -- and could really be used in many ways. I haven't looked through it in a long time, if you're interested to know what's in there, I'd love to give you a list, just let me know!
As for the Information Sheet, we included the following in ours:
Full name,
SS#,
Birth Date,
Blood Type,
Passport #,
Drivers License #,
Any regular medication that is needed,
Any allergies -- food or drug,
Insurance name, and number,
Home address,
Personal phone #,
All immediate family (spouse, and their cell #, and all children with names)
Work information -- name, address, and phone number
Parents/In-Laws -- their names, address and phone numbers
Siblings and spouses -- names, address and phone numbers
Great-grandparents -- We only included this for those that are close enough to contact easily in case of an emergency.
For the kids we included all of that, but listed out the grandparents, aunts/uncles, and great-grandparents.
It feels great to know we're prepared a little bit. We don't have much in the way of food storage, but we're working on it. I am grateful to know that if we had to hurry out of our home for some reason, or if we were stuck here, we could live, and be ok. :) Hooray!

We just picked up food for ours today for the first time. I've always been meaning to do it. We still need to do the non-food stuff so we'll look at this for ideas.
I'm curious though, are there enough calories you have in your food? It doesn't sound very filling. But maybe that's because I've been using this list and that has a calorie goal. http://www.mormonshare.com/sites/default/files/images/Jennys72hourKitMenus.pdf
